This month we are exploring different aspects of transitions and helping to generate ideas and tools to help you.

When it comes to helping your child through transitions, it's good to understand how you handle them too. Think about all the little shifts you and your child go through the day. How do you cope with moving from one thing to another, like activities, places, or people? And how do you react when changes are out of your control?

Lots of things can affect how transitions go, like your mood, the time of day, how tired or hungry you are, and what's happening around you. Your child's age and how they're growing also play a big part. Maybe you weren’t aware of how you respond to change, then when your child struggles, it brings up your own feelings?

The more we can understand and become aware of all these things, the easier it is to create your own set of tools to help transitions go smoother.

Play & Learn at Home

Here are a few examples of everyday transitions:

Waking up
Getting out of bed in the morning
Getting dressed and ready
Sitting down for a meal
Going outside
Going from the car to where ever is next
Moving from one daily activity to another.
